Design Achievement - For this new space in their new Region 8 Headquarters Facility, the EPA wanted to showcase not only the sustainable features of the building, but also their forward thinking characteristics. DLR Group's design delivers on those goals and more in a highly sustainable, high-tech, welcoming and changeable environment for their staff and guests. Materials, systems, and furnishings clearly demonstrate the value and capacity of sustainable design choices for both beauty and practicality.

Scope Summary - This 4,600 SF tenant improvement was designed to seamlessly integrate the materials palette utilized throughout rest of the headquarters. The materials palette echoes that which was used throughout the rest of the headquarters building. Bamboo, recycled carpet tile, solid surface countertop with recycled aluminum shavings, and recycled ceiling tile showcase the potential of sustainable choices for beauty. Highly efficient new materials and systems were also introduced into the space. LED lighting was used throughout, while 40 percent recycled content resin panels created elegant light boxes framing the reception desk and terrazzo tile with 40 percent recycled glass flows along the floor like a river. Dry-stack stone, recycled content from the original construction of the building's main building lobby, was used to create a unique accent wall and a portion of the reception desk. Beetle-kill pine from the mountains of Colorado was fabricated locally into a trellis that rests above the receptionist desk. DLR Group provided architecture and interior design services.
